Do I take insurance?

I do not take insurance. Session cost is out of pocket.  My master’s degree is from New York so I do not work with insurance.  As a board certified dance movement therapist, I am qualified by the American Dance Therapy Association to practice privately, and it falls under the category of delivery of human services according to the Illinois General Assembly.

Is there a sliding scale option?

Yes, please contact me for more information about this.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions take place at Chicago Aikikai, 1444 W Chicago Ave, FL 2, or on ice at Mcfetridge Sports Center, 3843 N California Ave.

Is there parking?

Street parking is available at both locations, and Mcfetridge also has a parking lot.

Do I speak other languages?

I have some proficiency with American Sign Language.

What should I wear?

Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes that you feel comfortable to move and stretch in. If it’s chilly out, an extra layer is a good idea.

How is this work going to help me?

I think the answer to this question for everyone is different, but some general goals I have for my clients are to develop better emotional awareness and regulation, more clarity and compassion, and a healthier connection to their bodies, which both frees them and brings them peace.  Being able to feel grounded, centered, and whole are skills I value teaching so that everyone can have them in their toolboxes.  Finding a balance in our therapeutic relationship is important for emotional safety. I enjoy working together with clients to understand best why they are there and what they would like to accomplish in our time together.

What’s the benefit of including movement in therapy instead of just talk therapy?

When you use movement in addition to talking, it has the potential to make much more of yourself available to you. A lot of people tend to disconnect from the neck down, and then we become walled off from ourselves. Being able to open the door to communication with the self through movement allows you to feel your feelings better and with more clarity, and to release the past by integrating it, digesting it, and gaining wisdom from it. Sometimes our body can speak much louder than our conscious mind, and this work gives it a place to be heard.

Do I work with people with Autism?

Yes, I can. I don’t have as much experience with it, and if the client is a child under 18 years old, I would request the parent stay for the session as well.

Do I work with children?

Yes, I have a lot of experience working with children. If the child is younger than 10 years old, I would request the parent stay for the session as well.
